“Art is the highest form of hope”

Gerhard Richter

MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES

Japanese-style works are created according to the rules of Nihonga (literally “painting of Japan”), which involves the wise and patient use of natural materials, including mineral pigments, plant-based papers, natural binders, and metal leaves such as gold and silver.

Some particular materials such as gofun (white pigment made from oyster shells), precious papers, brushes and ink come directly from Japan.

Classical-style works are also created on the handcrafted materials of the Italian and French nineteenth-century tradition, starting from a solid academic study of the figures of Charles Bargue and the live study of the human figure as was done in the traditional Art Ateliers before the arrival of the Avant-garde.

The time dedicated to training in observation and the preparation required for supports and materials invites the artist to live the creative process as a meditative and prayer path.
